1. A Personal MBA from Ben Meer

Incredible curation of books here from Ben Meer.

This would be a great project to undertake in 2024, and all it requires is 30 minutes of reading per day.

I couldn't include the links in this email (it kills deliverability).

But I managed to find free PDF versions for nearly all the books and put the links in this handy spreadsheet:

2. A video to help unf*ck your life (10 simple actions)

video preview

I'll be honest, this video made me cry like a baby.

I've struggled with my mental health in the past, so this really hit home for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm in a great place right now, probably the best I've ever been. But I know what it’s like to go through that kind of thing, and it isn’t easy.

This is the kind of content the internet needs more of.

3. A powerful reminder of what it took to get you here

Sahil Bloom dropped this gem on Twitter last week:

4. A writing tip that's changing my life

Morgan Housel (author of The Psychology of Money) on his writing process:

Usually within the process of a blog post or a book chapter, I’ll go for three walks around my neighborhood. And during that walk I’m a hundred percent focused on what I’m– writing and thinking about, “What did I just write? Is that true? Oh, actually, that reminds me of something else. So that’s always a process.” If I’m sitting at my desk, I really can’t get my brain to work as well as it is when I’m getting up and walking around...I think movement is really critical to forming new thoughts and moving the piece along, which is so critical when you don’t know where it’s going to go when you started writing it.

I found this intriguing and wanted to test it out this week.

Here's my proof:

The results were amazing. Pretty sure I wrote more this week than in any other week of my life.

Here are a few tips that made this most effective for me:

  1. Walk somewhere familiar. You don't want to be thinking about where you're going next, you want to be focused on what you're writing. I walked circles around a big park.
  2. Keep an open note on your phone and add sentences/ideas as they come into your mind during the walk.
  3. Listen to white noise or some kind of repetitive (non-distracting) music. I found this helpful to get me hyper-focused on what I was writing. Played this song about 80 times in the last 5 days.

5. The best Venn Diagram I've ever seen
