Microdosing Content, Showering In The Dark, and Cold-Emailing Billionaires

Read online / Read time: 4 minutes

Hey friends!

A bit under the weather this week, so I'm keeping this issue short and sweet.

A system for intentional content consumption - Tired of Doomscrolling? Try This

Consuming content isn't inherently bad.

Where we run into problems is when we constantly let the algorithm decide what content we consume.

This video proposes something I haven't seen before.

Instead of quitting social media cold turkey (which never sticks), you pre-select your content in a notebook. She calls it a content bank.

You write down anything that genuinely interests you, then only consume from that finite list. Need more? Set a 15-minute timer, go scout for new stuff, write it down, and lea

A viral health trend that might be worth trying

I've been seeing this pop up everywhere lately.

I'm no health expert, but as someone who's frequently overstimulated, this piqued my interest.

I'll be trying it out this week and will report back with my findings. 🫡

A sneaky good tip for reading more

I guess this is what you would call "productive procrastination".

Another way to get back into reading is with Shortform.

They take books like Atomic Habits, Thinking Fast and Slow, and Deep Work and break them down into clear, actionable summaries you can finish in 15 minutes.

(Yes, this is sponsored, but I genuinely love it.)

A rule for improving your relationships

This idea comes from the book Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara (great read).

In the hospitality industry, the 95/5 Rule highlights how 95% of efforts should focus on fulfilling basic expectations of the client, while the remaining 5% should be focused on creating extraordinary experiences.

I loved this idea, and my mind immediately started thinking about how this could be applied to other relationships.

In friendships: The 95% is showing up, listening, being reliable. The 5% could be a surprise visit, a handwritten note, remembering the small milestones nobody else does.

In romantic relationships: The 95% is communication, trust, daily affection. The 5% could be a spontaneous date, a note hidden in their bag, doing something thoughtful for no reason at all.

In family: The 95% is staying present, showing up, keeping in touch. The 5% could be organizing something unexpected that brings everyone together.

An article worth reading - The art of cold-emailing a billionaire by Andy Lee

Saw this in my friend Rich Webster's newsletter and thought it was a fascinating read.

The lesson: people don't realize it's actually easier to contact busy people than you think.

You just need to follow four principles:

  1. Establish competency.
  2. Make your ask.
  3. Be transparent with your self-interest.
  4. Show extra effort.

The best part? This works on literally anyone.

Mentors, potential clients, creators you look up to, hiring managers. The bar for a good cold email is so low because most people either never send one or send a terrible one.

😂

Have a great week friends!
