2. ✍ 1-minute writing lessons that will teach you more than a 200-page book - Courtesy of Gary Provost and Scott Adams

Everybody writes.

Emails, texts, sales copy, video scripts.

Learning it not only makes you a better writer, but also a better thinker.

Here are 2 simple lessons that have had the biggest impact on me...

How to Write Music from Gary Provost:

The Day You Became a Better Writer from Scott Adams (creator of Dilbert):

3. 📖 A story about priorities that will change your life - Rocks, Pebbles, and Sand

I remember this story striking a chord with me years ago when I first heard it.

I realize many of you have probably seen this—but it's a great reminder of the importance of setting priorities in our lives.

If you don't feel like watching the video, the story goes like this:

A philosophy professor stood before his class with a large empty jar.
He filled the jar to the top with large rocks and asked his students if it was full.

His students all agreed the jar was full.

He then added small pebbles, and gave the jar a shake, so the pebbles dispersed themselves among the larger rocks.
Then he asked again, “Is the jar full now?”

The students again said that the jar was full.

The professor said, “Are you sure?”
He then poured sand into the jar, filling the spaces between the rocks and the pebbles.
He asked one final time, "Is it full?"

The students laughed and agreed that yes, it was full.

What it means:

The jar = your life
The rocks = The biggest and most important things you have going on
The pebbles = Things that matter, but you could live without
The sand = the unimportant things that fill up time/space

The core lesson:

If you start by putting sand in the jar—you won’t have space for the rocks and pebbles.

Losing sight of your priorities can lead to your big goals being buried by small, meaningless pursuits.

Always make room for your rocks.

Other things to consider:

We are in the jar

It can be hard to get perspective when we’re so close to everything in our lives. The pebbles might seem like rocks, the sand might be overflowing. It’s important to step back once in a while. Take time to reflect on the priorities in your life.

It can’t all be rocks

“If you have more than three priorities, you don't have any,”
—Jim Collins

Part of choosing your rocks is choosing what you’re willing to sacrifice

It’s never going to fit perfectly

No one has life figured out. Situations change. Priorities change.
Sometimes you’ll have to drop a few pebbles, or scoop out some sand.
That’s part of being human.

The jar doesn’t need to be full

There’s one other thing in the jar we didn't mention—air. Leave yourself some space to breathe.

4. 📈 If you want to live longer, read this - Twitter thread from Dan Go

You can't buy more time.

But you can get more of it by changing your lifestyle.

This thread from Dan lays out 5 tests which are strong indicators of how long you'll live.

(Don't worry, he also shows how to improve them)

The thread has a lot of videos, so I'm not going to summarize it here.

These tests are adapted from the book Built to Move by Kelly and Juliet Starrett.

Which I highly recommend you check it out.

5. 🤔 A powerful monthly ritual - The Think Day from Sahil Bloom

TL;DR:

What is it?

The Think Day is a practice inspired by Bill Gates' Think Week. It involves setting aside a day each month or quarter dedicated to deep thinking, reflection, and personal growth.

How to do it?

To have a successful Think Day, follow these steps:

  • Seclude yourself mentally or physically.
  • Turn off notifications on your devices.
  • Set up an out-of-office response to indicate your unavailability.
  • Engage in activities such as reading, learning, journaling, and thinking.
  • Utilize thinking question prompts to spark creative thoughts.

Why you should try it:

  • Benefits include restored energy, improved focus, and better decision-making.
  • Slowing down allows you to notice details, prioritize effectively, and focus on high-leverage opportunities.
  • The Think Day fosters personal growth and a broader perspective on the bigger picture.
